Have you ever wondered why a personal loan, credit card or auto finance offered online has turned out to be much more expensive than expected? An EU-wide investigation into more than 500 websites offering consumer credit has found that 70% (393) of sites lack at least some of the legally required information to help consumers make an informed decision. In the UK , 38 out of 47 (80%) checked websites revealed irregularities which will now be investigated further by UK Office of Fair Trading.

On Tuesday the 27th of September the European Parliament passed a non-legislative recommendation on road safety. In order to reduce road casualties part of the resolution recommended the responsible authorities to introduce speed limits of 30 km/h in residential areas.

Bill Newton Dunn, Lib Dem MEP for the East Midlands, will be part of a six MEP European Parliament delegation to India that begins on April 11th. The delegation will meet their counterparts in the Lok Sabha, which is the Lower House of the Parliament of India. They will discuss a new treaty which would expand economic ties between the EU and India , and also measures to fight Climate Change.

Bill Newton Dunn, Liberal Democrat MEP for the East Midlands, has signed European Parliament Written Declaration 81 - which is like an Early Day Motion at Westminster - which calls for EU legislation to eliminate truck blind spots, which are responsible for 400 deaths on our roads every year.

The posters are adorned with Roger Helmer declaring green climate policies are, "unnecessary" "ineffectual" and "expensive". This sees another episode in Helmer's personal crusade against saving the planet and against the science of climate change, this time at a cost to the taxpayer of £9,000.

The EU-wide ban on old style 75 watt light bulbs took effect on 1 September, following last September's banning of 100W bulbs. This latest stage in the phasing out of old bulbs has not provoked the same outrage as occurred last September, although there were reports of panic buying of 75W bulbs in some European countries, and, rather oddly, I noted some furious reports in US press.
